Hua Tuo  was a celebrated physician and surgeon in the late Eastern Han Dynasty.

         Hua Tuo was the first doctor in the world who invented the anaesthetic, called ma fei san, and applied it to his surgical operations.

Patients were asked to have ma fei san so that they could undergo operations without pain. This was no small feat in those days.
